Denman in Star Cast Line up at Newbury Racecourse
Paul Nicholls, trainer of Denman confirmed on Wednesday night that he plans to run him at Newbury Racecourse in the Aon Chase on totesport Super Saturday on 13 February.
After Denman’s vintage win under top weight in the Hennessy Gold Cup, held at Newbury Racecourse in November, the Aon Chase in February had always been Nicholls preferred option for him, for his Cheltenham Gold Cup preparation.
But the recent spell of bad weather persuaded Nicholls to keep all options open, which included this Saturday’s Argento’s Chase at Cheltenham and the Grade 1 Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Denman’s outing on 13th February will be his final preparation before he bids to regain his tote Cheltenham Gold Cup crown from stable mate ‘Kauto Star’ in March; currently favourite in the betting for the tote Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival with Denman a close second.
Totesport Super Saturday has always been regarded as a popular day of top sporting action and with Denman’s planned appearance, the scene is set for a mouth watering line up of quality and competitive jump racing at the Berkshire track. Seven races are scheduled to take place, with the Aon Chase, the totepool Game Spirit Chase and the competitive totepool Trophy Hurdle all featuring throughout the afternoon as well as a combined total of prize money on offer of £316,000.
“Newbury is looking forward to welcoming Denman and his connections on 13 February. We are also hopeful of several other heavyweights from the jumping world to turn up, there is still availability on tickets as well as limited dining hospitality and we will be encouraging everyone to come along and experience what is set to be a superb day of jump racing”. Commented Harriet Rochester, Marketing and PR Manager, Newbury Racecourse.
Newbury Racecourse is also launching a special “Proposal Bench” on the day, located amongst Newbury’s classic benches with a view of the finishing straight. The special white bench will provide the perfect romantic venue for lovers to pop the question during their day at the races and over the Valentines period.
Tickets starting from just £18 and there is some availability panoramic restaurants and limited hospitality. For tickets or for more information visit newbury-racecourse.co.uk or call 01645 40015.
