Locally trained hero Carruthers lands Hennessy spoilsSteeped in 55 years of heritage, the Hennessy Gold Cup logged another chapter today at Newbury Racecourse, when Carruthers was the three and three quarter lengths winner of the £150,000 race. Carruthers, trained locally by Mark Bradstock, was bred by Lord Oaksey, who rode Taxidermist to win the race in 1958. Lord Oaksey also heads up the co-ownership the Oaksey Partnership and is father-in-law to trainer Mark.

Twelve riders gunning for Cheltenham Greatwood glory
The Greatwood Charity Race (Sunday 13 November), the last race at the finale of Cheltenham's Open meeting this weekend has received a bumper entry, with twelve riders taking part, the maximum number permitted.  3 November
Newbury Racecourse announces Sportingbet as title sponsor of its winter Jumping highlight Newbury Racecourse has announced that online bookmaker Sportingbet will be the title sponsor at this year’s three day Jump racing highlight, The Winter Festival featuring the Hennessy Gold Cup, 24, 25, 26 November, branded The Sportingbet Winter Festival.

22 October
Horseracing and Military stand shoulder to shoulder9000 racegoers, 1500 of which were military personnel and Royal British Legion (RBL) members receiving free entry, gathered at Newbury Racecourse today to support the launch of the RBL’s Berkshire Poppy Appeal. The Worthingtons Armed Forces Raceday also marked the final fixture of the Berkshire track’s 2011 flat season, featuring two Group three races.

Horsepower of a different kind comes to Newbury RacecourseNewbury Racecourse, normally renowned for its horseracing heritage, which includes the Group 1 JLT Lockinge Stakes and Hennessy Gold Cup, welcomed a different mode of horsepower today in the form of a Supacat Jackal 2, the latest British vehicle to enter service in Afghanistan.

Meregan Norwood, of Lambourn Berkshire, is hoping to raise over £20,000 for charities Breast Cancer Care and the Breast Cancer Campaign, when she takes part in a charity race ride at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Ultimate Ladies Night at Carlisle Racecourse on Monday Evening 1 August. This fixture is also a world first, as all six races as well as the charity race will be confined to lady only Jockeys.

Newbury Racecourse Pledges free Tickets for TroopsBritain’s racecourses donate 40,000 free tickets for our country’s soldiers, sailors and airmen and women to visit the races in 2011.
Newbury Racecourse is today announcing its continued support of the charity, Tickets For Troops for the second year running, offering 950 tickets to 19 of its fixtures across its 2011 racing calendar.

The 54th HWPA Derby AwardsBrough Scott was crowned Journalist of the Year at the 44th annual HWPA Derby Awards Lunch supported by boylesports.com and Spinal Research, held in London on Monday, December 6. The Racing Post man was winning the award for the second time having first collected the Clive Graham Trophy in 1977.
